Question:
Advice please about multifuel stoves as I am confused?
have had three surveys done on my existing fire opening and chimney:
4 suppliers tell me different things
2 tell me it is a legal requirement to have a flexible liner when fitting one of these stoves whereas the other 2 tell me that as I have an existing clay liner in my chimney it is not required.
Can someone clarify this for me please as I cannot find adequate information. Thank you

Chosen Answer:
Flexible stainless steel liners are only meant to be used as a short term solution for a chimney with cracked/crumbling clay liners.
Make sure any prospective installer is registered with HETAS.
When you have chosen your stove, seek out an approved installer to carry out a smoke leak test on the chimney,if it passes then the stove can be fitted directly into the chimney using a short steel pipe and a closure plate to take the smoke/fumes into the chimney.
So no,the chimney doesn't need to be lined.
