I'm currently finishing up high-school here in Canada, and my dream is to be a screenwriter for either film or television.
Now, there are two problems/questions I'm currently facing.
1) In terms of location to study, I've narrowed it down to either Montreal or Toronto. I live about two hours from Montreal, and four hours from Toronto. Which city would be the best location for me to pursue my dream? Montreal is closer and cheaper to live, but Toronto is bigger, and I'm guessing more opportunities. Does it really matter where I would go or not?
2) The schools/courses themselves. Should I do a broad BA English/Creative Writing major degree, or rather a more specialized Film/Screenwriting program? The schools I have in mind, by the way, are Concordia University (Montreal) and York University (Toronto), though I'm open to suggestions.
What path would you recommend?
Thanks!
To begin with, I'm not Canadian but I can advise you on how to go forward with your dream,...First off, you have to place yourself within easy reach of a financier or some agency that has an interest in what you're doing and that means going where the money is....money is where the rich folks are,..GO THERE by all means and stay there until people know who you are until your name makes people's eyebrows rise. As an artist/writer?....geeeeeesh you have to have an opportunity to meet people who make a difference and that in turn means staying in one place long enough for that opportunity to arrise....then you have to grab the opportunity because if you don't, somebody will. Be bold!
