The dog is going to need to go on a diet. So less scraps would be a start, and watching how much dog food he eats is also a start, make sure he's only eating what is recommended.
He's happy- until he gets obese. Instead of feeding him human food, feed gim healthy doggie treats from the table. He'll be just as happy because they taste just as good as our food, buut he wont have to intake all the sodium and sugars. Its best for him this way.
we give our dog human food but only food that we know is good for my dog and before any one bitches yes their is "some" food u can give them
id say not to make a habit of it. its hard to stop and at the end it does affect them im in the process off cutting down so i dont stop my dog cold turkey!
Well there are other ways you can make your dog soo happy. It is your responsibility to keep him healthy and when he isn't able to walk well or jump or run like a dog should because he is too overweight and it hurts his little legs won't you feel terrible? You have to think about what you are doing to him in the long run. Would you rather make your dog happy right at that moment at the expense of his health in a few months? Maybe you should only give him treats every once in awhile... thats why they are called "treats" because they are supposed to be a treat. When it becomes a normal thing its no longer a treat. Try playing with him or taking him for a walk or something... I'm sure it will make him just as happy.
Silly, silly human. Scraps will only hurt the dog in the end. Dogs have different digestive systems and metabolisms than humans, so what may seem like a healthy dinner for a human, may actually be very fattening to a dog. The best advice: NO table scraps, quality diet dog food, and plenty of good excersise.
What do you expect us to tell you to do then? Tell you some magical food that tastes amazing but makes you loose wieght? I'd like to know what that is if it exsists.
I Know it makes you and him happy. But think about his health . I too thought I was doing a good thing giving out Brittany Spaniel dinner scrapes but unfortunalty she became over weight and ended up with Diabeties. You don't want that for your dog.
You answered your own question. Stop doing what you are doing to cause him to be overweight. My Dachshund LOVES table scraps, but he WILL put on the weight if given them often.
Dachshunds are susceptable to spinal injuries and paralysis. Excessive weight is a grave concern. I am very careful about snacks and table scraps with my dachshunds. Paralysis makes a dachshund sooo unhappy.
