It depends on which channels you would like to watch, Directv has more talk shows and news channels than dish network. Dish network is more for movie or sports fans, although Directv also has espn.
Directv is normally more expensive, so if price is the issue and you are not really interested in watching TV for mainly news, than I suggest Dish is better for you.

I, too, have had both and definitely like DirecTV better. With Dish I can't get the DVR to work on the second TV most of the time. It is ridiculous. We have called Dish every month and they have sent out 6 (that's not a misprint) new remotes saying a bad remote is to blame. The last time they told us they were going to charge for the remote when we pay an extra fee to have service included! They are a big hassle. If you are trying to decide go with DirecTV.
I've had both and Directv is better by far. Dish used to have issues with some pay-per-events and couldn't air them. But the biggest problem was billing and customer service. I've had NO problems with billing or customer service with Directv. Dish charged me for porn and no one was even home during the day and our house was locked up.
I think the new digital system is going to be great, no cost after the original outlay for the antanea and the boxes, however, I have Direct TV now and its pretty cool but cost more than Dish
If you asked me a month ago I would have said Dish. We were former customers and we tried to get Dish back and they wouldn't let us sign up unless we paid for all of our boxes because we weren't new customers.. They run anywhere from $100 to $500. I am starting to think that none of them are good!
