well i have never had a problem feeding my cows corn. so i really can't tell ya. and i was surprised at the question. i have never heard such a thing. we have a feed called "baby beef" which has corn, molasses, oats, and pellets in it that we feed to our cows and horses and have never had any problems with it. and sometimes when we ran out of baby beef we fed straight corn and had no trouble. so i don't understand the answers you have gotten. maybe 200 pounds per day wasn't that much for a small herd of 20, i don't know but no "ill effects" has occured to any of them. go figure.
Not only can the practice of feeding corn to cows produce terrible pain and even death to the cows, it also results in more marbling in the meat, thereby producing more saturated fat that cannot be trimmed off. There are lots more negative effects on the cows--and on us humans. For more info, you may check out http://www.foodrevolution.org/grassfedbeef.htmts
It is unhealthy for cows. Their stomachs are designed for grass. The corn actually makes them sick so they have to be given lots of atibiotics. In the big feed lots they feed corn because it is cheeper and the cows get fat quicker but the resulting poop carries the E.coli virus.
